August 10, 2011SaturdayOklahoma State football kicks off! Okay, so I am two weeks late with this posting. It is as is often said, "Better late than never." Frenzied college football fans across the Midwest can now settle down from their pigskin withdrawals because as of September 3, 2011, college football has begun for the Pokes of Oklahoma State and for colleges around the country. It is amazing how little I was aware of or participated in where college football was concerned (pre 2002: the year I moved to Oklahoma), and how much I enjoy and look forward to the first game day kick-off, post 2002. I have Mark B. and his awesome family to thank for that. No really, I love college football, especially when we're rooting for the Cowboys at T. Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Let me bring you up to date (season wise, 2011): Saturday, September 3, 2011 - Oklahoma State vs. Louisiana-Lafayette, Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater. Last year (10/08/10), Oklahoma State defeated the Ragin Cajuns 54-28 at Louisiana-Lafayette. This year, the Pokes defeated the Cajuns 61-34. Total attendance was 55,000+ Thursday, September 8, 2011 - Oklahoma State vs. Arizona Wildcats, Boone Pickens Stadium, Stillwater. This is a rematch from last year's "Valero Alamo Bowl" (12/29/10) where the Cowboys defeated Arizona, 36-10. This year, the Pokes defeated the Wildcats 37-14. Total attendance was 54,000+ Below is a breakdown of the rest of Oklahoma State's 2011 schedule: 09/17/11 Oklahoma State vs. Tulsa @ Tulsa09/24/11 Oklahoma State vs. Texas A&M @ College Station10/08/11 Oklahoma State vs. Kansas @ Stillwater (Home)10/15/11 Oklahoma State vs. Texas @ Austin10/22/11 Oklahoma State vs. Missouri @ Columbia10/29/11 Oklahoma State vs. Baylor @ Stillwater (Home)11/05/11 Oklahoma State vs. Kansas State @ Stillwater (Home)11/12/11 Oklahoma State vs. Texas Tech @ Lubbock11/18/11 Oklahoma State vs. Iowa State @ Aames12/03/11 Oklahoma State vs. Oklahoma (Bedlam) @ Stillwater It has been confirmed that Texas A&M will leave the Big XII Conference. Pending litigation or any additional setbacks, A&M plans to accept an invitation from the SEC Conference. Colorado left the Big XII to play in the PAC 12 while Nebraska left for the Big 10. Oklahoma University President, David Boren, announced that Oklahoma will soon decide whether it will remain in the Big XII or move west turning the PAC 12 into a superconference of sixteen teams that would definitely include Oklahoma State and perhaps Texas (if they do not go independent), Texas Tech and possibly Missouri (unless Mizzou gets invited to SEC). What is sad about all of this is that Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, and Baylor (all members of the Big XII), are being left out of the discussions and are at the mercy of the other schools. Personally, because of the disadvantage schools and because after Oklahoma State I am a Cyclone (Iowa State) fan and because of game schedules, etc., I would prefer to see the Big XII remain in tact. I hope that will be the direction President Boren will take. However, judging from what I have read in the paper, it would seem that Boren has his eyes set on heading west. I will let you know what the final outcome is once I know. August 12, 2010Thursday Watch for the following to be written in one of my future books ...
My sadness is profound and my hurt is deeply rooted. How then do I wake from this nightmare and believe that what I see is merely nothing more than a dream?
Hold steadfastly to that which you love. Let it go only when you know that in doing so you believe that if true love it be, come back to thee will it return.
Embrace the timbers of life burning deep within your soul. If there is pain it only means that you are growing, stretching, moving beyond the status quo. Do not become stagnant in your love or life. Stagnation only breeds what life rejects.
Open wide your eyes looking upward toward Heavens gaze. Look upon the God to whom we give daily praise. Sing to Him what you feel burning deep within the well of your hearts soul. Speak with confidence in tow, "Today I sell not my soul!"
Look squarely into the eyes of the demon of darkness and shout, "Look upon me you vile representation of stagnation. I tear asunder this sadness and hurt that you seek to burden me with because today--at this moment I choose to embrace the light of my Creator; a light that burns brightly within my soul."
Stand, and shout from every mountain high, "Satan! Those fires you feel in Hell are not just the absolute absence of God, but also His love for this wretched sinner and the rejection I cast upon you. It is too late for you. As for me, I still have today to live and accept what waits for me upon my eternal sleep."
Live for today. Look at what is good about today and pray for that which does not dance in the light. Don't worry about tomorrow or the second before the next for neither has yet come. What do you believe is at the heart of this message? End of Days coming? The word among the superstitious is that the Mayans have predicted that a catastrophic event will take place on December 21, 2012. Be it far from me to poke fun at the beliefs of another civilization. People chased out the prophets who prophesied the coming of the Messiah. I still accept what Jesus said in the Bible about no one but the Father knowing when the end time will come. However, to be on the safe side, I will continue to do my best to live my life in accordance with God's will. Just in case 2012 turns out to be true. The Master is on the horizon! As many of you are aware I am four classes away from graduating from the University of Phoenix-Tulsa with a bachelor degree in Human Services Management. What is even more exciting is that I committed today to begin my graduate studies (February 22, 2011), University of Phoenix seeking a master degree in Adult Education. At one point I never would have thought this was even possible, let alone probable.

The DifferenceWhat is the difference between a motivational speaker and a motivational teacher? A motivational speaker makes you feel good, but the next day you're not sure why. A motivational teacher also makes you feel good, but the next day you possess something that will help you (J. Maxwell, The Difference Maker, 2006, p. 1-2).

“No, I cannot.”
Recently, a
friend asked, “Can you prove the existence of God?” I believe I overheard this conversation
before. My response, “No,
I cannot. Can you prove God does not
exist?”
Poor Listening Skills
Stop telling
others what you think you know and start listening to what you do not know.
Why?
Why do people who
are doing something get lectured by those who do nothing?
War of the Worlds
When people
believe they are invulnerable it is at that moment that they become
vulnerable. It may be just a movie, but
the reality is—the Martians can represent any army on earth.
Love
We express love
by saying to another, “I love you.” What happens when the individual we
profess to love becomes the antithesis of why we loved them in the first place?
Entitlement
An entitlement is
a right granted by law or contract.
There are no contracts at birth.
Hatred
An individual
says they hate you because of everything you have done (to them). Does that mean the person who hates you also
hates him or herself because of everything he or she has done to others?
Needle in the Haystack!
There is much
that can be lost in a haystack. However,
if you search long and hard enough you will find the proverbial needle in the
haystack. The same holds true in
life. Search long and search deep. If you are persistent enough you will find
what is good about being alive.
I Hear
Close your eyes bow
your head and listen to the sounds around you.
Now imagine a world without sound.
If you can hear today do not worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow may never come. But today, right now, this moment—what you
hear is all you need to know that you are alive.
